Buccaneers sign veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick

When Mike Glennon signed with the Bears, the Buccaneers were left with a minor hole at their back-up quarterback spot. That hole has been filled.

The Bucs signed journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick to be their back-up quarterback Friday morning.

This will be the seventh team for Fitzpatrick in his career as he has spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, St. Louis Rams, Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets.

Fitzpatrick is 14th on the active passing yards list with 25,888 yards through the air.

The NFL is going about this overtime scheme all wrong, and it appears they’re doing it not so much because of player safety concerns (because, you know, they wouldn’t have Thursday night games if that were the case), but because their TV partners don’t want games running out of control into the rest of the schedule.

Forget that, and instead of shortening overtime, go full-speed in the other direction: Play until there’s a winner, no matter how long and how many overtimes it takes. Just like they do in the playoffs … including the most recent Super Bowl.

That would eliminate the entire concept of playing for a tie, not only in overtime but in regulation. The current overtime rules would still apply, but the prospect of Cheap Jerseys Make Your Own going multiple overtimes would change every team’s approach late in the fourth quarter and in the extra period. You want aggressive play-calling? Check the coaches who don’t want their players going an extra 25-30 minutes if they can avoid it — especially in December, especially with that dreaded short week looming. Watch them Cheap Jerseys Pay With Paypal suddenly stop setting up for 60-yard field goals just when their offenses are clicking on a final drive.
