Texans owner wants ‘better performance’ at QB in 2017; Tony Romo not solution

Casual NFL fans probably ran into at least one headline showcasing dismay over Brock Osweiler’s play this season after signing a massive contract with the Texans.

The former Arizona State standout bided his time behind Peyton Manning in Denver before grabbing the reigns of Houston’s offense, but he fell well short of expectations, even getting benched in favor of unheralded Tom Savage before reclaiming his starting role in time for a playoff loss against the Patriots.

So goes life with the franchise that gets in its own way like few others, and with the quarterback who rightfully should be torn about his next move, assuming it will be up to him. It won’t fully be, of course, because of the NFL’s franchise-tag rules, which will be applied to him by next week’s deadline.
