Steelers’ Antonio Brown signed six-figure Facebook deal before live broadcast

Turns out Antonio Brown’s infamous Facebook Live broadcast wasn’t a random occurrence.

According to NFL Network, the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver signed a six-figure contract with Facebook and the social media site may have encouraged him to stream the locker room happenings after last Sunday’s wild-card game.

Pete Ward, the Colts’ chief operating office, was handling the negotiations, per the report, but he refused to divulge into the matter.

I received a call asking if we were interested in Payton, Ward said. And I told the caller, ‘No.’

It’s the second year in a row the two teams talked about sending Payton to Indianapolis.

The trade came up again this year after Colts owner Jim Irsay fired general manager Ryan Grigson on Saturday, choosing to spare head coach Chuck Pagano for the time being.

Irsay’s decision to fire Grigson came after negotiations for Payton halted, according to the report.

With Saints quarterback Drew Brees nearing the end of his career, an ability to work with franchise quarterback Andrew Luck was dangled as an obvious incentive for Payton to jump ship.

For now, it’s speculated that Irsay will promote Colts executive Jimmy Raye III to general manager.
